Just got this motor and it is missing the little plate on the side of the lower leg that is held in place with 2 screws. I have searched for it online and can't find it anywhere. Can I still run the motor without this plate? It's a 7.5 Horse with forward neutral and reverse.

Thats possibly the shift rod cover. It allows you access to the rod so you can disconnect the rod to remove the foot. Sears parts direct doesnt have the part anymore. It shouldnt hurt the motor at all without it other than getting trash in there. You could probably fab one yourself. its # 18 on the diagram

Thank you for the reply! That's the part that is missing. The motor idles well but dies out at high rpm when in gear any thoughts on this? Thank you again!!

could be fuel supply issue or the bladder in the back side of the carb that works as a fuel pump. part #6 and sears parts direct has them in stock part # 630953
