Hi Everyone,
Moving this post from a previous forum, as I believe Parsun manufactures the smaller motors for Coleman. Just want to pick anyonons brain and see if they have seen this issue before or can offer a suggestion. I'll take the motor in for warranty as a last resort, but I have to drive 1 hr each way in order to do that. If I can fix myself would me much more of a time saver.
So, I have a 5HP Coleman, which I believe is a Tohatsu, 4-stroke motor. This was purchased brand new last year, and it runs great. I've noticed recently that there seems to be a slow leak coming from one of the lower unit bolts (see photos). The strange this is, I've never loosened this bolt at all, and I checked this morning and it seems to be tight. Its not leaking enough oil to cause a catastrophic failure of course, maybe 1 drip per day I would say at the most.
I replaced the lower unit gear oil last fall w/out any problems at all. It is a little disconcerting considering this motor is brand new that it would be leaking gear oil out of a bolt that has never been touched.
Anyone have any recommendations on what else to look for? Both lower unit gear oil plugs are tight, and of course its not leaking where those are at (the oil is not leaking from that top plug and then down to the bolt, as far as I can tell). I removed that bolt and as you can see there is oil leaking out of the hole. Although its a very slow leak (1-2 drips per day), its something I need to look into as to why its leaking from there. Is it possible there was too much oil in the lower unit? I don't think so, but is that possible?
I could me missing something, hopefully someone can point out something I may have looked over. Let me know if you are able to view the pics, it seems as they are uploading very small for some reason.
