Here is my beauty. Painted for duck hunting. Shes a 1949 and runs like a champ. Would like to find a starter recoil for it. Any ideas??

After looking at other posts I can tell its a Gale but now not sure if its an atlas or what. I saw a Hiawatha that looked similar but grooves in side panel were a little different. I cant find a serial number or any identification marks. Any ideas??

In 1941 Gambles Department Store began selling Hiawatha outboard motors. These were a private label motor made by OMC's Gale division. Beginning in 1956 they were made by Scott and discontinued after 1961.

Actually, it isn't an Atlas--OR a 1949. Those had 360 degree steering. It's more like a 1941-46 era. Could be Hiawatha, or Sea King, or? I guess it is anything you want it to be.

Not a Sea King. Closest match is a Hiawatha with only slight differences in the pics I see online

No Title

There are several "almost" like its. Hiawatha 47-5D, 25-7970 (both 1947); Hiawatha 50S, 50DL (both 1941-42), Western Auto "Western Flyer" 251W and 252W (both 1941-42). And several others that it could be, by swapping cowlings. Like I said, without numbers it is whatever you want it to be. I'd opt for the Western Flyer (rarer).

The red paint under the clam shell seems like it could be atlas red.

I have Gale model 2A3 for Atlas Royal 5hp 1947/48

But it isn't an Atlas because it doesn't have 360 degree steering.

Oh, 1948-ish, depending on what store it was made for. Easy to tell just by looking at it. Look at yours and you can see that it is impossible to turn it all the way around because the midsection won't allow it.
