Sherwood Water Pump Question

I recently started a Chrysler M440 that has been sitting for 10 years. I hooked up a hose the a muff that fits underneath the boat at the intake grill. It ran for about 20 seconds and I turned it off. There was no water flow. I pulled the thermostat and the water pump and the were all dry. There was no water in the engine since it has been sitting. It has a Sherwood D-55 dual pump. My question is does the pump need to be primed

no, the impellers in the pump need to be replaced. the impellers only last about 5 years on a motor that is run often. sitting will kill them. If they were not dead prior, starting the motor for 20 seconds surely smoked them.

once you are done with replacing the impellers, hook the water hose directly to the pump inlet. muffs and intake grills are a bit iffy. From there go about resurecting the old Mopar.
