How to adjust shift linkage in a Yamaha sterndrive 5.7 1993

I replaced the shift cable and it works pretty good when I shift from the remote control. However, sometimes it continues to move in reverse when shifted from forward to neutral. Does anyone have a procedure to follow to adjust the linkage so it will sift smoothly? I want to try to adjust myself before I take it in as the boat is located in a remote area where it is almost 60 miles to the nearest mechanic. Attached is a Utube video I found for a Mercruser. No relationship to Mercruiser. The company that sold you the cable should have provided installation instructions. We do on those we sell
