20' chaparral with 4.3 and yamaha outdrive

received not water ready with known overheating issues and burnt bellows. pulled drive and replaced 3 bellows. pulled sherwood housing off motor and replaced impeller.

upper and lower elbow bellows were cracked / leaking. removed old bellows and elbows and noticed that the flap in the drivers side of the exhaust y pipe (http://www.**********/parts/search/Yamaha/Drive/1990/V6_4.3_ENG/EXHAUST SYSTEM/parts.html) -- part #9 ) is gone.

the hose that connects to #8 here was broken up in the drive close to the stern. got a fitting and reconnected while drive was off. tried but couldn't blow through it.

in the lower unit, just below the bolts and forward of foot, there are i think 2 holes on each side just bigger than a ziptie. i see what looks to be like old impeller pieces in these holes maybe ????

questions are these:

the tube that comes off the front of the lower unit and goes up into the back of the boat that I couldn't blow throught; what does that tube do, should I have been able to blow through it?

How important is it that the flaps be in the exhaust y pipe?

whatever that was that I saw through the holes in the lower unit, should it pass on through the prop once I get the boat back in the water or do other actions need to be taken?

where is the impeller 'pee' spout on this boat/drive showing that the impeller is indeed working?

Thanks

It may just be my computer but the links don't work. Try this http://www.**********/parts/search/Yamaha/Drive/1990/INT_DRIVE_/LOWER - DRIVE 1/parts.html

The tube should be the pressure tube for the pitot speedo drive. It is most likely blocked and should be the last thing you try to free up.
I have no idea about the flaps, except they are something to do with lessening the amount of water that may make it's way into the cylinders via the exhaust.

Unless the 4.3 uses a different leg, it's unlikely you have impellor bits down there, as the raw water pump, in my case, is mounted on the front of the engine.

On my drive, a 5.7, there is no "pee" hole.

this hose come off the back of the boat out of what i would call the upper part of the foot where the all the foot belllows (u joint bellow, exhaust bellow, and shifter cable bellow) connect to the stern, and goes into a zinc plate of some sort on the front of the lower part of the foot.

are we thinking about the same hose ?
