I would like to change the ignition coil to an internal resistor type or install an electronic ignition. Where is the external resistor located? It should be in the ignition wire between ignition switch and positive side of ignition coil. I cannot see a standard ballast resistor (porcelain with two tabs) or an inline wire type resistor. There is no firewall to mount it on like an automobile. so the logical place would be on top of the engine next to the coil. Did the manufacturer encase it in the wiring bundle that feeds all components?

IIRC, Ski Challenger would be a Pleasurecraft engine. If so, they like to put the ballast resistor under the plastic cover on the back of the engine that covers up the engine breaker and starter solenoid. Are you sure your coil has an external resistor?
