My curiosity may have caused me a lot of trouble.
I am having troubles identifying an opening on the left side of my omc upper drive. I took the screw out not knowing there were no threads behind. I am assuming a nut fell behind somewhere. I have a manual but pictures are unclear and I still can't identify what I unscrewed. Before I start opening the stern drive, I thought I would ask. Thanks for your help.

Welcome.
You have a manual of any kind?
Take the drive off and retrieve the piece.
Reinstall it.
OMC didn't include it in the diagrams cause they didn't think ANYONE would remove the cute little sticker they covered the hole with.
The hole I was told is for foundry casting??

Be careful when filling the drive with oil. Needs to be done the right way. If not you'll spend $$$ fixing the upper.

It's earned the name the OMC "stupid screw." :)
