Has anyone attempted the conversion from OMC to SEI 116 ster drive?
I'm having a hard time getting part for my cobra or finding a replacement cobra. I have already wasted a month trying to get part form aftermarket marine, and i'm giving up on them.
I can find 4 & 6 cylinder lowers on craigslist. When I do find a cobra meant for a 5.7L or a 7.4/7.5 they are junk, leaking, and need a rebuild. $800+ for something that doesn't work is a bit much IMO. SEI has a lower for with a 3 year warranty for $845.

I've had great experiences with SEI stuff myself, but I was starting with a merc equipped boat to begin with.

If you dig deeper you'll find that a complete cobra conversion is an ambitious project that will put you around $1500 in at a minimum.

As I remember, there's modification or replacement of your controls among other things. I looked into converting both of my twin Cobras a few years back and found it much more cost effective to maintain my OMC units, understand them and run em.

With persistence and the advice of a great mechanic and the members here, mine work great, but will require regular attention beyond the mercruiser norm.
