Hey guys. I want to replace my oil drain screw gaskets and the dipstick washer on my 1989 Cobra - 2.3L Ford. Problem is that I cant find the part numbers. I think for the lower plugs the sierra number is 18-24819 but I not 100% confident. I have know idea on the dip stick washer. I have searched around the net but not sure. My marine parts guy wants to sell me knew plugs......I just want the seals. hopefully a cobra guy can chime in here.
thanks.

I make it an 18-4248 for the plugs in the lower and 18-7116 for the dipstick.

OMC numbers
0333572 for the lower
0912830 for the dip stick

If you want Sierra part numbers, you will have to look for a cross-reference. I don't think the ones Wrench gave you are for an 89.

I got the numbers out of the seal kits for the '89 2.3, but I'm afraid I can't guarantee that I didn't miss some extras in there.

What you should do is get the model number off your engine so you know exactly what it is when you go in and buy parts.

It will look something like this:
232BPRMED

Makes sense. I have the original owners manual that came the boat that has all the numbers written on it. So no prob. Thanks again.

Put the model number of what you have in your signature so the next time you need to ask a question it's there. Hor example, my Volvo Sterdrive is a model "LK" so I have it in my sig.

Ok this may sound silly, but I looked thru my profile and could not find the spot to put my signature. how do I this?

Did they look it up by your model number?

The dipstick one could easily be plastic.

All 3 of them are plastic. The dog clutch Cobras did not use rubber drain plug gaskets as far as I know. I've always used the OE ones and they have always been the plastic (fiber) gaskets that you are supposed to replace each time...

The plastic ones LEAK!!!
The rubber was superseded by plastic.
I use Mercury felt washers on the drain and fill plugs.
The top one can be re-used if you can't find it.
0315189 is the old part#
221060818443 e-bay this looks like the rubber one. Contact him and ask if it's rubber.

That's what I came up with from the Sierra catalog, but others say not.

I believe they changed over the years from plastic to rubber o-rings so it depends on the year.

My 87 was plastic.

I donno, I have never had one leak and have been using them through out 12 years of doing almost all the work myself.

Ok the mystery is solved. For my drive (1989) it takes rubber o rings. Sierra part number 187145. And the dipstick is 187116. All sealed up. Phew!! Thanks everyone.
