Hi there, welcome to iboats!:)

I couldn't seem to find a chart with 981105 number but lot's of 99xxxx numbers. Searching the model number online though seems to bring up a lot of 1977's. Here's all the ones I could find for you. Hope this helps somewhat, good luck.:)

If your outdrive is white: then the number you want is on a tag on the engine - mine is located on the starboard side toward the back. That would be if you have a Stringer drive. If you have a newer boat with a Cobra the outdrive will be black(er) and ... I won't know boo about it :)

Do you have pictures?

My outdrive looks like this:

OMC Stringers have a couple of different shift systems available: Mine is the oldest ... least desired ... more laughed at ... socially unacceptable ... well, you get the idea ... electric shift. If yours is a '77 it's probably electric shift: but that was the last year for them so you may have a hydro-mechanical.

IF it's electric shift, you should have shift wires on the port side of the engine just forward of the intermediate housing. You can see mine in this photograph:

There should be a tag ID for the engine somewhere inside: mine is on the rear mount you can see it here:

If you've got through hub exhaust it's a different shift style.
