Any ideas on how to remove the starter bolt on the block side of the starter? Does it require a special socket or wrench?

Just installed one on my 1988 omc cobra 3.0L. Just ordinary hand tools. Socket wrench/box wrench. Don't remember the size though.

Mine is an 88 as well. The problem I am having is getting a socket on the long bolt. It sits right up against a plate. There's just enough room to squeeze a finger nail between them.

Ayuh,.... With a bar, 'n hammer, pound a dent in the tin, to allow the wrench on the bolt,...
Or,....
Reach up, 'n under, 'n pull the 4 or 5 screws holdin' the tin on, 'n pull it down,.....

With the tin Out, cut off the little piece that's the problem,...

The New style Mercruiser chevy starter bolts have a 1/2" head, rather than the usual 9/16" head,...
The smaller wrench fits perfectly,...
