Shift cable issue

I'm installing a new shift cable on a omc cobra and I bought the tool to set the cable where it needs to be. My question is where the threads come out on the pivot housing side the threads are flush on the outside of the retainer. My old cable there was like 14 threads showing on the outside of the retainer. Is it ok if the threads are just flush on the outside of the retainer. Any info would be appreciated as I am at a stand still right now till I find out if it's ok.

Try u-tube.There are some good videos there.
Be very careful what you watch.
There is one video that shows an idot trying to separate the drive from the gimbal housing with 3-4 different screwdrivers and a hammer.
