How to see if my lower unit is Full mechanical or Hydro-mechanical?

Hi folks,
I'm new on this forum. I have a OMC 5.0L 190hp stringer 800 outdrive. I had to change my outdrive because the upper and lower unit was broken + my shift cable broke.

My question is: I bought a used but in working condition lower unit serie 800. I would like to know how can I see if my lower unit is either Full mechanical shift cable or hydro-mechanical because the seller didn't know.

I do have the lower unit in hand and I would like to know what kind of shift cable I need to buy(Full mechanical or Hydro-mechanical because I know the part number is different).

Let me know
Thank you

Here is a picture of a full mechanical 800 lower. Note the anode (red arrow) visible on both sides of the drive. The hydro mechanical does not have this.

You also want to make sure that you got an 800 not a 400. The 800 prop shaft will have 15 splines, the 400 has 13. The upper gear cases of both are identical except that the one that came with a 400 will have gearing that is unsuitable for bigger motor applications. The lower gearcases, aside from have different gearing, are different.

The full mech and the hydro mech use different shift cables and converter boxes. The full mech lower requires an ESA system, the hydro mech does not.

That is a hydro-mechanical but I cannot tell if it is a 400 or 800. I cannot count the splines on the prop shaft.

Your links do not work because I thing you did not enter them using the 'link' feature at the top of the posting box.
