How to set the timing 1997 5.7 GLI Engine OMC/Volvo Penta

My manuals are down at my caravan,I have the scan tool and it will be my first attempt at setting the timing on my Engine,
has anyone got a step by step guide on how to do it.

Its a 1997 5.7 GLI Engine OMC/Volvo Penta

Timing on your engine should be set at 8? BTDC in service mode.

That's what I have and for the price it can't be beat. If you have trouble finding a reasonably economic one, maybe you could have someone send you one?

waiting for my timing light to arrive,on my Rinda scanning tool is a reading for advanced timing what figures should this be,do I take readings at differant RPM,The ECM controls this but just wondered what the readings should be.
