will a 1994 omc sterndrive from a 3.0L fit on a 1990 omc sterndrive with a 4.3L

I have a 1990 omc sunbird with a 4.3L v-6 with a bad lower unit. I came across a good used omc lower unit from a 1994 4 winns with a 3.0L 4 cyl. looking for any help or suggestions if I will run into any problems.I understand there is gear ratio difference, the 3.0L has a 1.71:1 ratio and the 4.3L has a 1.68:1 ratio.

I dont think they are the same physical size. Please correct me if I am wrong but I think the 3.0 case is smaller.

I may not have worded the question correctly, I am wanting to swap the complete outdrive assembly from the 3.0L to my 4.3L.

with the ratios that close, no problem. go for it. As long as the 1994 is the OMC dog clutch drive, everything is physically the same dimensionally on the outside. If the 94 is the Volvo one from the Swedish side of the joint venture it won't work. Not sure if the volvo cobras were out in 1994 or not.
Just be aware the shift rod heights and cable adjustments were probably different between the two so you might want to consult both factory manuals to get an understanding of how best to set up the shift cable.

94 was Volvo no pump in the drive.
Compare the parts digrams.
The 90 is the Cobra drive the 94 Is the Volvo/OMC
Won't work.

Which one of the drives in the picture is the 94.. The SX will not work on the 90.

I was told that it is a cobra, not the Volvo, I will have to wait until he comes back from vacation and take a look.
