Hello,
I have a 91 OMC 2.3L With CDI 123-9898-P ESA and Pertronix Electronic Ignition with Flame Thrower Coil.
I have the Shift Interrupter diode fix installed. (I have learned this should not have been used with CDI's ESA) and ballast resistor REMOVED. This worked for 2 seasons but now my ignition is cutting out under load.
I have 8.5 volts at my + coil when tested, not the 12V I should have. My + is new wire from ignition key.
I replaced my Pertronix and coil last Fall with same problem.
What do I need to do to repair? This is my thought. #1. Remove Diode Shift Interrupter Fix wire #2. Replace CDI ESA #3. Add .75-1.5 ohm resistor between + on coil and power supply from key & electronic ignition + power supply. ANY HELP WILL BE MOST APPRECIATED! Thank You, Ed

Re: OMC CDI ESA Pertronix problem.

If you removed the resistor, you should have 12v at the coil. There must be something that is dropping the voltage. That low voltage could be the culprit. The pertronix needs 12v, so if it is attached to the coil getting 8.5v, that is a problem. Good luck!
