I have a 1988 Seaswirl Sable with a OMC 5.7 liter engine in it. The fuel pump, Carter 981650, stopped pumping gas. Everything lead me to the replacement pump, 385527. I ordered the pump from IBOATS and they said it has been replaced by the Sierra 18-7268. I received the pump in the mail and the fitting for the lines are positioned differently and the line that goes to the carb (vent) does not appear on the pump. Is this trully the replacement?

I have a omc 2.3 that I replaced a pump on last year, ordered from west marine, it too was a Sierra pump, and dead wrong, also no vent so I did not use it. If that thing ever leaked at the diaghram the gas will not be able to dump back to carb as designed. I believe marine fuel pumps are double protected and have the clear tube port back to carb. I ordered from another online site that showed the correct picture of mine, although that was a gamble too, because a picture could have been used from oe stock. But it worked for me. I would look for the correct replacement, the counter guy agreed with me at west marine that should not be this way.

My 1988 Seaswirl Sable has a carburetor. The Sirerra 18-7268 will not work. I am doing some research and it appears that the 18-7268 replaces the 385527 which replaced the 0981650. Looking at pictures and some other information it appears that the 0981650 was replaced by the 3855276 also. The pictures on this pump appear to be identical to the fuel line set up on my old pump and it does have a vent tube.

I received the 3855276 in the mail and it is the correct pump with fuel lines lined up correctly with vent.

good news! i had the same problem s mentioned new pump and no vent line back to carb. I would not have used it, went to different supplier an right pump according to my application. Apparently some are making marine fuel pumps and deleting the required safety mod, or supply is auto related. It's nice to have piece of mind yo got the right fuel pump on board.
