1988 cobra 3.0L prop shaft

To anyone who may know the answer to this. What is the difference between the prop shaft for my drive (1988 cobra 3.0L) and the shaft for 1990. As there is a huge price difference and if possible I would like to use the newer cheaper one. What would I have to do to make the newer one work?

The new one is for the exact same drive just a couple years newer of a drive. Both are for the cobra drive with the 3.0L engine. One is for the earlier version(the one I have) and the other is for the newer version. Both are for the same engine and drive combo just different years. I'll get part number later and post them as well.
what other information do you need and I will get it.

3.0 lower unit changed completely in 1990.
1989 was the last year the 13 spline "400" series size Cobra lower unit was produced. Nothing interchanges between the two lowers.

1990 and later 3.0L lowers used the 15 spline propshaft "800" size lower unit.

Thanks for the info, I was hoping it was just a matter of changing a couple of other parts with it to make it fit. Guess I'll just have to pay the big bucks for the shaft

I got lucky and found a NOS shaft for only 250. now the question is ho hard is it to install the shaft? I've already ordered the special tools required
