I have a 1987 bayliner with 2.3 liter OMC cobra. I'm trying to find out the correct firing order. I've been told that it is (1-3-2-4) but can't figure out if the cylinders are numbered front to back or back to front. Also can't figure out where 1 is on the distributor cap. Can anybody help?

Cylinders are numbered from the pulley end to the flywheel end. To find #1 on the dist pull the plugs and put your finger over #1 and bar it over (not starter) until you feel compression, then line up the timing marks to TDC. Usually the rotor points to #1 spark plug, but who knows if the distributor has ever been removed. You will also have to determine if the dist turns CW or CCW.

If it is running just follow the wire from #1 to the dist.
