Hi,

I have a omc that i just replaced the water pump in.
I had it in the lake and it heated up to 180,then cooled down just fine.
Was just tooling around for 1/2 hour or so.
Then i kicked it down, and all was well.

But all of a sudden it heated up and i had to turn it off.
Put in drive way, checked water pump and its ok.

So im wondering about the thermostat.
I took it off,and it looks dirty.

Im guessing it runs fine until it heats and the thermostat is no good.

So i will have to replace it.
But how do i get it out?

Looks like a long spring in the middle, and im not sure how to get it out.
Anyone do this before?

And do i really need it in there?
Was wondering about just going down as far as i can and cut the spring out of it and run the boat without.
But that was just an idea, lol

Any help would be appreciated.

There is an o-ring that holds it in.

DO NOT run the boat without the thermostat, its very important to help keep the temps stable for best combustion and performance..

just replace it with a marine one, 160F as mentioned there is a rubber o-ring in there.. you might need a small screw driver or
needle nose pliers..

Re: 88 galaxie omc 4.3 thermostat question

ok thanks,
An o ring?

i took off the spring, and that let that piece that opens and closes and goes up and down ,free.
i tried to unscrew the top piece, and it seems like it unscrews, but kinda just stops.

I dont see an o ring.
Marine 260 f?
Ok thanks on that one :)
