87 triton reinstall outdrive

replaced the shift cable. am happy with it. what is the trick for getting the u-joints to slide thru the exhaust bellows? have lubed well.do i need to put a sleeve around it like installing pistons?

i figure the alignment is still good as did nothing but pull outdrive and remove old shift cable. had to take the swivel thing out with bellows etc. but all back together and waiting on outdrive. ideas? have raised boat, lowered boat etc. is the bellows seal holding it out or is it not hitting just right in the motor splines?

well have read other peoples same problem on this forum. one was 2004. so i guess i just gotta hold my everything right and it should go in.gonna watch the derby then try again. thanks all.

got it. stepson came home,33 yr. old eyes instead of 56. he worked the bellows seal around and wham bam thank u mam. in. little spline align and nuts on trim cyl. hooked up and still waiting on derby. cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
