I've just replaced the engine in my Chris Craft, 7.4L King Cobra with a rebuilt engine. The timing is currently set at 0 degrees and I need to set it to 8 degrees BTDC. The problem is that I don't know how to reset the base timing (electronic ignition). Is there a wire the I need to unplug or jumper? Do I need a special tool?

Thanks,

Dave

Depends on the type of distributor you have. Many don't have to be set in base timing.

I beleive this ignition system does have to be set in base timing because it idles well but as soon as I put it under load, it "pings" very badly. It is a spitfire ignition system.
