Not that bad of a job! Pressure tested to 14 psi after it was assembled and no leaks!Vacuum test was good too...
Feel like i learned something..:D

Did the bellows, gimbal bearing and everything is ready to bolt back on..
The SX is not bad at all to work on..I liked it.

You did install a new crush sleeve in the double bearing box and reset the bearing preload didn't you? Hope you replaced that bolt in the end of the shaft too. They were prone to breakage when being reused.

The book doesn't mention it, it's just one of those things they tell you in the Volvo drive classes. And they repeat it a lot.
Don't forget the locktite on the new bolt, and another new crush sleeve.
Other than the bolt which you knew nothing about, fine job !!!!!

Thanks! I did use the loctite per the book.
Should i pull it back apart or let it go? (It will be stuck in my mind now that i did it wrong)

I was just really happy the pressure test was good..;)

This boat was SO neglected! A one owner 1995 ChrisCraft with original bellows! Unreal!
The bellows fell apart in my hands they were so rotted.
He does keep it garaged but i had no idea bellows would come anywhere close to lasting 15 years!

He said the drive oil was changed a few years ago...Geeze!

Oh no you don't You ain't puttin' it on my shoulders bud  Look at my avitar, see that crack in the crystal ball? :p

Seriously though, what would you expect if you took your boat to someone to have them fix it. That should answer the question for you.

LOL!!! Sorry Don!:p

I am imagining the drive grenading...
Better order the bolt and crush sleeve....;)

The owner is not picking it up until next week so i got time.

Good thing is a got to know a guy about 2 minutes away that stocks tons of Volvo and OMC parts..Johnny Rude and Merc too..
Been learning a ton of stuff hanging around his shop.
He is also sending me some work when he gets really busy..

He saved my butt today on a little coupler that goes into a late model Merc outboard trim pump.A part that you can't buy without buying a 600 dollar trim unit from Merc.
He told me to dig through his junk drawer...found one!

I like junk drawers like that.
When I was up in Alaska, I'm the one that had the junk drawers or I should say junk tool box. I had an old 5 drawer rollaround that had all drawers full of "Good Stuff" thing must have weighed near a ton. It's still under the bench, no way I could bring it with me.

LOL, no, that wasn't photoshop, that was in MS Paint. Before I ever found Photoshop. I should really make that look better shouldn't I ;)

I miss that old box, i knew every piece in it, and it was 20 some years in the making before I grabbed it from the dump run when we was moving to a new shop. I then gave it 10 more years of stuff.

Gotta love the junk drawers...If you think about it they are really a gold mine..:D

I looked through that stuff until my eyeballs hurt..was about to give up and there it was!
He would not let me pay him for it so i think i will drop off lunch one day for him and his helper.;)

Maybe a 50 cent part but priceless to me.

I have a pretty good start on my own drawer like that but just did not have anything like that little slotted coupler.
Was going to get a buddy at the machine shop make one.

I sent many people to my junk box. Never charged for any of it. Have found a lot of paper money in there that I know I didn't put there.

That would have been a good idea Don.

The guy is from NY and was telling me about his favorite local Deli and the great Pastrami sandwiches they sell.
I will treat him to lunch from there and deliver it..;)

I don't have a huge junk drawer, but I have a huge bolt bucket. Every car, every boat, every small engine and dirtbike i've ripped apart over the years. Whenever something was getting scrapped, all the bolts came out of it and went into the bolt bucket.

I would be careful doing that. Next thing you know, he will be allowing you to plunder his junk box again and again and ................
