Upper gearcase shaft help

I have a 1985 OMC 800 stern drive. Replaced ball gears, seals and I noticed the water pump shaft( female end where it goes into the lower unit) orbits when I turn the ball gear by hand. The shaft does not turn centered. Is this normal? Before I pulled the upper gearcase apart I believe I noticed this at that time. After pulling upper gear case apart, all gears looked brand new. Does the orbiting motion of the shaft have something to do with the operation of the water impeller. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

the impeller center is offset from the pump housing center. the shaft should be true

note that the multi-piece vertical drive shaft is a failure point (splines come out). you may want to simply change all 3 pieces

I did replace the impellar, housing, plate etc... The shaft is true. I can't seem to attach a photo because of the size limit through my camera

I did not have the impellar shaft pushed down all the way. I thought something didn't look right. Thank you
