1990 King Cobra Shift Cable Replace

Looking for information on replacing my shift cable for 1990 King Cobra 460 (754apepws). I see all sorts of information regarding other cobra stern drives but not 1990 which is different (cone clutch). How do you adjust cable? Any tricks to removal beyond removal of outdrive? I bought this boat new and the shift cable was changed back in 1999 but is having trouble going into reverse again, as before. Thanks in advance for any help.

Have never done a King Cobra shift cable. Maybe Rick HT32BSX115 knows.

How do I reach Rick? I'm thinking the cable may be stretched, There is an eccentric cam the cable hooks to. The cable pushes to go into forward (stretched/longer), but pulls to go into reverse (longer) so it won't pull far enough. I just hate to spend $200. on a cable that may not work. Somebody help...please.

In the mean time, try locating an OEM service manual that cover the King Cobra and read the instructions on how to adjust the cable.
