My 1992 Four Winns has a sticker on the port valve cover with model numbers and serial numbers:

Model 584APLRGD Serial No. T01224704

Model 987126 Serial No. T00754702

It does not say Engine or Outdrive but I can tell that the top # is the outdrive and I find that model online

Questions:

Is this a Ford engine? How can you tell?

The Model 584APLRGD is listed for 1991 boats does that matter?

Should I always use parts and specs for a 1991??

What is the model 987126 for?

Thank You
Kip

Thanks Bondo. Distributor is forward, so it's a Ford. I suspected that.

Any ideas on the rest of my questions?

The one that starts with 58...is the overall engine/sterndrive power package # that can be used to order the right parts. The 58=5.8 liter (Ford) 4=4bbl carb, P=power steering. The rest are just OMC codes for subtle differences in the models. The one starting with T I believe refers to the outdrive. Just go over to Crowley Marine and look up your parts by the 584---- number, that will get you close enough. Can't decipher the T numbers for the drive....
Your '92 boat has a '91 power package, that happens often and nothing to worry about just get parts for a '91 going by that 584----- number

Thanks Lou

Here is what I got from the OMC Shop Manual:

Model 584APLRGD Serial No. T01224704

58 = 5.8 ltr, 4 = 4bbl carb,. A= first release, P = Power Steering
L = Left hand rotation, RG = Model Year ( Random), D = Model Year version (Random)

And you are right it's a 1991 engine in a 1992 boat. I will use the 91 specs

Kip

PS anyone notice that OMC messed up the Chapter description for Ford V8s in the manual on page 185

It says chap 6 is GM V8. Wrong it it Ford V8s.

In my OMC shop manual pix of the Cobra drive were flopped the wrong way so it makes it look like the water passage is on the wrong side! But the manual is the best you can get for these really.

here's your parts, these are all original equipment parts #s.
Actually you're lucky that this one came with the more common dog clutch standard Cobra drive rather than the very strong but very rare Cone Clutch drive which was also available with same engine.

Totally normal for a 91 engine/drive in a 92 boat. You buy the parts for a 91 or better yet, use your model number to buy parts.
