Quick question about 1988 shift cable

I bought the tool from midnight wolf and I'm confused on how far I am supposed to put the actual cable into the tool. Do I put it in the whole way until it stops and then lock it down with the set screws? Or in the middle of the hole where you can see the cable or what?

I think wolf should have told you how to use his tools. You should e-mail him and ask.

It's not really the tool I have the question about. The plastic piece that came with my new shift cable, how far do I put the actual cable into the plastic piece? The middle hole in the attached picture. Does it go all the way into that hole until it stops? Sorry i meant the actual cable not the tool.
