1976 omc stringer hose adapter

I have read in the SELOC manual that you can use the hose adapter to run engine out of the water, but then they warn that more than 5 sec of running outdrive out of the water "may cause damage". Which is it???

Welcome aboard:

If you aren't running water to the system, then you can really only get away with running for a couple of seconds.

If you've got water to the system - hose adapter, submerged, etc. - then you can run longer.

Running water through the drive is important to lubricate & cool the rubber impeller. If you run the drive without water the impeller runs dry and the fins will burn up.
