Looking at a boat that has a 2007 Merc 115 4 stroke on it. From the looks of the boat the boat wasn't taken care of real well. The guys selling the boat said he bought bought new in 2007 and the motor has around 320 hours on it. He said he has always serviced (oil, impeller, lower unit) engine himself and has never taken to dealer. I thought these older 4 strokes need to got o dealer for 20 hour and 100 hour service? The boat is a little rougher than I think a 2007 should be but if motor is good Its a decent buy, just worry about the it never being seen by a dealer since it was new.

Any thought on this would be much appretiated.

Should have been there for valve check/adjustments but the average Joe doesn't have the tools to do that. But if the engine runs good, you could have that service performed. You have heard it run I hope. What people say and what is the truth are rarely the same. Needs a tune-up usually means something is seriously wrong.
