You can get non Mercury switches either way. The ones with four spade terminals on the back use one set to make a circuit and the other set to break the circuit. The specific one you showed, being a Mercury switch is most likely a make switch. That is, when the lanyard pulls the switch to off position, the circuit is completed and the electronic ignition is shorted to ground, stopping the engine.

Should work for me then. My shut off solenoids need 12V to kill the engines . I'd like something fairly waterproof.
