Looking for a used motor for my 14' Starcraft. This is the very basic 3 bench seat boat and is very light. I will be mainly using this boat for duck hunting and very little fishing as I have a different boat for that. I'm looking for opinions on 2 motors in particular. 1976 Mercury 7.5HP and a 1984 Force 9.9HP. Both run well and appear to be in nice shape for their ages. Both motors are only a couple hundred dollars. I welcome opinions to which motor and why. Thanks in advance!

I think I would check for the availability of parts. Force has been out of production since about 99.I think the recoil start benbix gear is problematic.
If the part is available it may be expensive.

Go with the Mercury.----But be aware that many big dealers do not support these motors and availability of new parts for these motors can be a problem.----Lots of these motors and parts available used.

IMHO both these OB's have approx same pushing power.

Thank you for all the replies. As it turns out I ended up finding a 82' Merc 9.8 that I went with instead.
