1996 Mercury 150 EFI any good

----I have another thread going for my situation and am looking for feedback on this motor---

I have a chance to get a 1996 Mercury 150 EFI for $2800....unknown hrs (aprox 5-700) It is from a repower and was a part of twins. The counter rotating twin was sold last season and the new owner had no problems(supposedly). The guy bought a single 300hp for the repower. Assuming it runs and has good compression what do you guys think of this motor?
My boat has a 1989 135hp v6 carbed merc so it should bolt right on and go....

Certainly a better option than that Zuzuski you where looking at, but even if it is a clean, good-runner, it's still overpriced at 2800. You are already familiar with Merc V6s, this one isn't that different than your 135, and with the volume of V6s that Merc produced in the mid 90s there are tons of parts motors still out there, should you ever need one. If the outboard checks out to your satisfaction, I would maybe start by offering 1900, and see where it leads.

It turns out that it is a 1998 and has a Mercury Reman powerhead...The sticker said it was reman Dec 2008. I got it for $2600.
Prices of motors here never seem to go down (Boston Ma). Compression was 125-130 on all cyls.
Now I have to wok on giving someone a great deal on a good running 135hp powerhead!

OK, 2600 isn't too bad for a 98 with a fairly fresh powerhead. Make sure to do a complete inspection and service before you hit the water.
