Tilt operation on 8 HP Tohatsu??

On new Tohatsu how does the manual tilt work?. Is it designed to tilt up by pushing down on the tiller handle or do you have to reach to back of cowling and pull up while you release a locking mechanism? I am not familiar with operation of small outboards. Thanks

Put it in forward and lift from the rear of the cowl. i believe most modern motors the tilt lock releases in forward gear.
There is probably a device to hold it tilted up.

With engine off, no issue if in neutral, forward or reverse gear. For tilt-up fully tilt engine forward you by holding the tilt handle provided at back cowl, then lower the tilt lever for locking at tilt-up position. For tilt down, slightly tilt engine up and pull tilt lever towards you to release tilt lock. Lower the engine gently.
