Hi woody. These may help. I believe they used the same part for many years on each model, so a handle from any motor of similar vintage should work.

Look in the "lower unit" tab of each link for an exploded diagram and parts number. Looks like you may have to look for a parts motor, check ebay and/or place a WTB ad on aomci.org, however.

Gotcha. Never seen one of those. Could be very handy indeed. I wonder if there's any way to DIY it? I suppose ebay and aomci are still the best bet.

Despite what the ad says, they didn't make that handle for the 10/18 models. It was for the Big Twin style motors (non Silent package models). Come to think of it, I've never seen any sort of handle like that for the smaller motors.

It wasn't an ad it's in the back of my owners manuals for my Johnson's with the optional equipment. Was hoping it was legit since its in two different year manuals.

Chinewalker and his father combined probably have about 100 years messing with, collecting, rebuilding ,running and racing outboards.
They may have missed the carry handle but not likely. It will be interesting to see if there is indeed some out there.

I'm guessing they are. I was told by another gentleman that the 56-58 years use the same handle as the big twins they just use different mounting holes.

I suppose it's possible - I've never looked that closely at one to find out.

UPDATE..... I took a chance a bought a handle the guy had listed as for a 35hp javalin and it appears it will mount on my FD-12 18hp by using 3 out of the 5 mounting holes the handle has. I have not held it up to my QD-19 yet to see if it with bolt up, but will this afternoon when I take it out. Thanks to all who have helped, I appreciate everyone's input!

Neato! I'm still not exactly sure how they're used to help carry the motor. Can you post a pic of it in action?

I have a carry handle that came off a '64 Johnson 75 hp. motor. That was trashed. I am not sure if it matters on size. But the 75 hp. was a V4. The carry handle I believe on bigger motors was used to install and remove the motors via a small crane or engine lift.
