1987 Mercury Mariner 90 hp

Hey, I'm wondering if anyone who has experience with the Mercury 90 hp made between 87-93 can give me an idea of the quality of this engine. It's a 3 cyl engine. I'm kinda comparing this with the classic inline 6 cyl engine pre 1987. What is a better engine? Is the 87' any good?

the 3 cylinder will be great on gas. Not as much torque as the tower of p.
Good motors as far as I know.
