1989 Mariner 2 stroke, serial number 0C154398, I'm mixing 2 stroke oil in a 50:1 ratio. Do I need to use Premium gas?

I have been, but now that gas is approaching $4.00 per gallon and I'll go through 6 gallons in a day of fishing, I'm trying to save a little money if possible...Thanks!

if it doesn't say to use pre you are just wasting your money .there is zero benefit to using pre over regular if your motor calls for reg.one of the most enduring old wives tales out there .

Yup, same thing with the cars. Sometimes it actually causes issues running higher octane when not necessary. BUT, Some gas stations only have NON-Ethanol gas available in the premium octane. In this case there could be some benefit.....

87 octane all day long. Very few outboards need higher octane and those are for racing.

I'm with the rest. 87 octane is well enough and also what the manufacturers recommend in most cases.

I'm assuming that since my 25hp isn't a high end racing motor and it's 24 years old, that Premium wasn't the recommended gas when it was made...

Your engine should be perfectly happy with whatever 87 octane gas you feed it.

Oh don't I wish :D
