The motor cover on my 1964 18 HP Evinrude has always been loose. Yesterday, when I took it out on the river, the prop bumped a submerged rock and jarred the motor cover enough that it actually fell off the motor and straight into the drink. I turned the boat back around to retrieve it, but it sank before my eyes:facepalm: I've been looking for a new one on craigslist and ebay (the only places I could think to look), but I can't seem to find a '64. Does anyone know how much the engine covers changed in the 60s? I saw a '66 on ebay that looks the same as my old '64, but I'm not sure if it will fit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi mew. Welcome to iboats. You may want to check ebay and/or the WTB classifieds on aomci.org. I actually have a spar cowling for a '65 Johnson, but I don't think it will work on your e-rude. Here's a link to a complete parts catalog of your motor with exploded diagrams as well as a great all around maintenance link.

expanding on kfa 4303 post if you look up 66 erude on the same site as he gave you will notice the 66 cowling has the same part numbers for the extras which would leave me to believe 64 and 66 are one and the same.

Thanks for the info! It sounds like the '66 is a pretty safe bet. I'll give it a try and cross my fingers.
