I have a jackplate with a 4 1/2 inch set back on my boat. The cavitation plate is setting event with the bottom of the boat. Why am I still getting blow out once I get on plain? Shouldnt I be able to run the motor higher with the set back?

You could be running the wrong prop. It could even be the hull design or loading.

How about a side view, close in showing the bottom of the hull, the AV plate and the prop.

+1. Any pics? If you're getting blow outs, the motor is probably a bit too high. Be sure that you don't get any blow out when cornering at speed either. Just because the motor runs well in a straight line, doesn't mean it will corner correctly. The good news is that lowering the motor as little as 1/2" can make a big difference. There's lots of tweaking and readjusting that needs to take place once you install a jackplate. Mostly, just lots of trial and error to get everything dialed in just right.
