OMC control, 1985 Force OB...control cable options?

Guy I know has an OMC control (I'd say, late 80's or early 90's vintage) and a 1985 Force 85hp outboard. Local boat places are stumped as to what control cables will join the two.

Any ideas?

I dont know the answer but there are a lot of very smart helpful posters on the Force outboard section of this forum.

NONE! The two systems are not compatible unless you custom make your own cables with OMC ends inside the control box and threaded ends at the Force engine end. No way to do that without special tools so almost impossible. Tell your friend to break down and buy a used US marine control box on the auctions

What about Volvo/Penta cables, say like on pg 142 of this partial Teleflex catalog?:

For example, part tel-CCX74015

Supposedly has OMC at the control end and universal at the engine end. Any reason we shoudln't try those? Anyone know if that would be 10-32 threads at the engine end?
