Mercury 6 Gallon Fuel Tank Part

I have a 1972' Mercury 40 H.P. Im restoring, and I am working on the tank, the sight glass is bad and the one I ordered is not correct. The sight glass I have has a square base with a dome on top. The one everyone else has seems to be a round flat lens about the size of a nickel. I have Dean at the Merc Bone yard scratching his head on this one. Any ideas? Gotta Have it someway somehow.

I have had the same trouble as you , and ended up cutting a piece of flat plex a glass the correct size to replace the old fadded one. That was 3 years ago and it still looks fine with no fadding.
