Opinions, recommendations? Which is the best for duck hunting on 15' boat? Is transom height critical? Will a recommended 15" transom height work ok on a boat with a 16" height?

Re: Mercury vs Honda 20 hp

Any of them will work ok on a 16" height transom, if opting for Mercury, check Tohatsu same HP, probably cheaper that same rebadged Mercury. Had a S shaft 18 HP installed on a 17" transom, the only issue prop airation at very tight turns, rather than that, will have better end speed on flat calm waters.

Tohatsu has a camouflage duck hunting out of this world 20 HP model, ducks probably won't know you were already there...

Re: Mercury vs Honda 20 hp

The Mercury, Evinrude, Nissan, Tohatsu is far superior to the Honda due to it starting with the letter H. H, as we all know, is the eighth letter in the alphabet and therefore subject to gravitational forces from....Well, beyond the limited understanding of humans.

Or

All outboards are equal...Some are more equal than others.

Ducks generally don't care what kind of outboard you have...But, if you could get one of the sneaky SOB's to quack they would probably prefer a Suzuki because they are so loud.

An outboard of X height needs to be matched to a transom of X height...Critical that they match, not critical as far as that pesky duck is concerned though.

Yep, all of your outboards produced today are over 16" anyway.(even though they say 15")
