Stamped on the port side of the powerhead. If you look up under the lower cowl, you should see it. If the cowl is off it should be quite visible.

any direction as to find parts for the old girl? (its in amazing condition, but cant help but think its going to need ignition parts, and ive been told by a local collector that it will probably need an "expensive carb part, that a guy in the u.s. makes)

Oh-oh. I am pretty sure the TN-26 uses the highly obsolete 580040 ignition coils. They haven't been made in about 40 years and WILL be shot. Some people are fitting the next generation coils (available here at iboats) onto the old laminations.

The carb probably needs a new float and primer packings. The float is obsolete, but there is a Mercury float available here at iboats that can be modified to work. A fellow named Lloyd at the Antique Outboard Club ( www.aomci.org ) makes the packings. They are not expensive.

The water pump impeller is obsolete, but a 5.5hp impeller (available here at iboats) will fit if you ream out the center hole to fit the TN drive shaft.

Those are the motors that made Johnson famous for dependability, and there are still tons of them still running.

Try laingsoutboards.com for ignition and carb parts. If he doesn't have them, nobody will.

Try nymarine.ca for paint and decals. Simply the best products out there and the motor will look better than new.

Here's a 1947 TD-20 (5HP) and a 1950 QD-11 (10 HP) restored with parts from those suppliers.

Sand to bare metal, then regular automotive Bondo. Works like a charm and will make the tank look like new. Just be sure to prime the bare spots with self etching primer before topcoating.

exactly the info i was looking for! didnt know if regular bondo would adhere to aluminum. im in the slow process of restoring a cd 13, and do have the self etching primer.
