1990 70 HP Force

I wanted to ask a question about the Force motors. Are these good motors or something to stay away from? I am thinking of getting a boat that has a 70hp Force on it and just wanted to find out the good and the bad of what I am looking at. Thanks for all information in advance.

They are decent motors using older simple technology. Parts and service support are dwindling. Let's just say I'd want to pay significantly less for one than an equivalent Johnson/Evinrude/Mercury/Yamaha, etc.

Ok, thanks for the info Ez. I am heading to Boise in a couple more weeks and that SC is still on CL for $600 and I am going to go check it out if I can.

Another question is what would good comperssion on the cylinders be for this motor? I am also assuming that it will be a 3 cylinder as well?

Yeah I think it is a 3 cylinder. If this was in the Force forum you probably get a more definite answer. From what I understand, those compression gauges aren't particularly accurate as far as the actual number they return, but they are consistent. You want all 3 cyls to be within 10% of each other. I'd think anything over 100 and consistent would be acceptable.

Ok Ez, I will put up a post in there. Just thought were this was not an actual repair that is should go in the outboard nonrepair forum.

My personal opinion is that this forum section has no reason to exist, if you catch my drift.

Yea I am kind of seeing that bud, does not seems like it is used like it should be.
