1998 honda 8hp 20" shaft

my buddy has this motor and i am thinking about buying it off him..he bought it new and put 15hrs on..i get everything tank maintenance kit and all that jazz. he told me $1000.. i was gonna buy a new 6hp but would rather go with a 2 cly. motor .. is this a fair price

Sounds about right for the year and condition.
Does your boat require a long shaft?
