Re: water pressure gauge on outboard?

I have a force 90 which only had a overheating buzzer on it. So if I was a full throttle I couldn't even hear it. SO I installed a water pressure guage. It has saved me many time when I have sucked mud or debris into the intakes. I would rather know I was going to have a problem before I had one so I could fix it.

Um, a water pressure gauge? Where would I hook one up to a 77 omc 70 horse and what should the pressure be? I don't know if my buzzer works. I do check water flow every once in a while though.

Re: water pressure gauge on outboard?

I have a 1984 150 hp Merc Blackmax, and I'm interested in installing a water pressure gauge. I've tried looking around on the internet, but can't seem to find anything about them. How would I go about getting and installing one? Does whatever I need come in a kit (gauge, wires, etc), or what? Also, would this get hooked up to the engine?
I'm also interested in installing a temperature gauge. Would this be hooked up the same way as the water pressure gauge?
~thanks~

Water presure guage is a good thing, you can see quickly that you have a problem, but please beware of how you attach tube to engine. Dealer who rigged my 250 yamaha did it wrong, attached verically and tube flexed as engine vibrated. So it broke, I did not see imediately, resulted in engine inhaling a large amount of salt water, then blew. Lucky it was under warranty and yamaha made it good with new block.

Re: water pressure gauge on outboard?

My brother installed a water pressure guage on his 150 Johnson when he rebuilt it 10 years ago and used a oil pressure guage from NAPA and it and motor have worked well ever since.
