i have a 15' westcoaster with 25hp motor. i would like to move the drive seat off the rear bench to make room for downriggers. i will probably move the seat 15-20" forward. anyone have experience with with tiller extensions? is any one brand better than others?. i've read that any speed over trolling speeds can be dangerous. any truth to this? any help appreciated. thanks........Captn-tin

Re: tiller extensions

put stick steering and remote controls on it. with the tiller extention you will have a very limited turning radius.

Re: tiller extensions

I used a tiller extension for awhile, but only under certain conditions.

I would remove it around the launch area or wherever there was heavy
boat traffic due to the limited turning and less control with it. I actually
was using 2 different seats, switching when needed.

I always made sure the set screw that secures the extension to the motor
tiller was tight. If that comes loose, you can be in trouble, big time, and
that's why the speed concerns exist.

I enjoyed it so much, I went to remote control steering. I installed a console
and all the controls with it. It took some time, and work, but I enjoyed the
project, and it works great! The weight in the middle of the boat makes for
a positive difference.

Good luck!
