I am in the process of purchasing a new 2007 20 foot pontoon boat. My dealer has offered me the following two brand new outboards.

A 75 HP Yamaha 4-stroke with a 3 year warranty
A 60 HP Mercury 4-stroke with a 5 year warranty.

The difference is they want only $300 more for the Yamaha. The dealer services both outboards.

The boat will be used here in Florida for cruising the intercoastal waterway.

Am I taking a risk giving up the 2 years of warranty by going with the bigger outboard? Do I need the bigger outboard? What should I do?

Thanks for the help.

Go big!!!!
Yamaha's are great motors and if you're going to have a warranty issue with any motor it is usually in the first year.

I'd go with the Yamaha 75 if I was in your situation.
