96'??Yamaha 115 has no serial or model number plates

I'm looking to buy a 96'Century with a 115 2 stroke v4 but can't prove that it is a 96 motor on the boat. the plates are missing. Is there somewhere on the motor I can look to find it??(A serial number or something that proves the year)

not really<br /> if the CDI is on the stbd side of the block its most likly a pre 93 version.<br /> there really wasnt a lot of changes to the V115 until about 04 or 05. there was a gearcase mod in 95 that deleted the drive shaft spring and added a lock collar just above the water pump impeller.<br /> the paint color changed about 95 but its hard to describe.
