I bought a 10 year old Sylvan deck boat Space Deck 1900 (19ft) they say it weighs about 2000 lbs.

Never owned a boat this size before. and plan to get a new Mercury 135 optimax. Is this enough power to pop up a slalom skier with 5 or 6 on board.

Someone suggested the 150 OX66 yamaha as a better choice for engine ...less repair problems.?? Any advice will be appreciated

Don't know the Sylvan but think a 135 would be hard pressed to come close to popping up a slalom skier with 5-6 on board.

I think the Optimax issues are over.

However, there is no replacement for horsepower.

Deck boats tend to be real heavy, they get loaded up with people and gear. Get the biggest engine you can afford that is still within the max hp rating for the boat.

Hi Steely Dan:
In February I repowered my 19 foot Grady White with Yamaha F150 four stroke. I can not tell you enough how impressed I am with the engine, it's performance and so forth. In fact Yamaha claims it is lighter than their 150 two stroke and is slightly larger in displacement. It is a 4 banger and the OX 150 is a six cylinder.

best of luck with repowering
